FORTMED is the International Conference dedicated to the study, analysis, and dissemination of Mediterranean fortifications, as well as those developed in overseas territories (Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Panama, Peru...), resulting from the spread of construction models, defensive strategies, and technical knowledge.
The main objective of FORTMED is to promote the exchange of current research and to encourage the sharing of results in order to contribute to a better understanding, valorization, conservation, management, and sustainable use of fortified Cultural Heritage. In this context, the dissemination of results is a fundamental tool.
The conference has an interdisciplinary nature, bringing together architects, building engineers, engineers, archaeologists, historians, geographers, geologists, cartographers, experts in design, restoration and architectural history, cultural heritage tourism and communication specialists, and heritage managers. The aim is to foster the development of a collaborative, integrated, and up-to-date vision that advances research on this topic to the highest level.
In 2027, on the occasion of its 10th edition, the Conference returns to Valencia, where it was first established in 2015 within the framework of the TOVIVA research project (HAR2013-41859-P). Over the years, the Conference has held the following editions:

The next edition of FORTMED will take place in Valencia on April 15, 16, and 17, 2027, at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación of the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain.
